What is Teleprompter

A prompter is a tool that displays a script or text on a screen, allowing a presenter to read it while looking directly at the camera lens. This creates the illusion of a natural, memorized delivery, making your videos and presentations look more professional and confident.

In JetPrompter, the prompter is the main feature: it's the full-screen display where your script scrolls smoothly at your chosen speed. You use it during recording or rehearsing to deliver your lines flawlessly without having to look down at notes or memorize everything.

What is a Script

In JetPrompter, a Script is your main project or document. It represents the entire content you plan to present or record, such as a video, a speech, or a presentation.

Think of a script as a container that holds all your individual Scenes (the segments of your presentation) and important meta-information that helps you stay organized and empowers the AI features.

A Script in JetPrompter includes:

  • Core Details: A Title, Description.
  • Context for AI: Information like Location, Video Genre, Speech Language and estimated Video Duration. Providing these details helps the AI generate more accurate and relevant scene content when you use the AI-assisted writing features.
  • Structure: A script is made up of one or many Scenes, allowing you to break down your content into manageable parts.

In short, you create a Script for each of your projects, and then you build it out by adding Scenes inside it.

What is a Scene

A Scene is a single, continuous segment of your script. Think of it as one topic, one point, or one chapter within your overall presentation. While a Script is your entire project, a Scene is a building block that makes it up.

Each Scene contains all the information needed for a specific part of your recording:

  • Content: The most important part is the Speech text. This is the exact content that will be displayed and scrolled on the teleprompter screen for you to read.
  • Context and Organization: A Name, Description, and Location to help you keep your scenes organized.
  • Visual Aid: An Image URL that can be used as a visual reference while you're editing or presenting.

You can add Scenes in three flexible ways:

  • Manually: Type the speech text directly for full control.
  • AI-Generated: Use the AI assistant to quickly build scenes based on your script's description.
  • CSV Import (Pro): For advanced workflows, you can import multiple scenes at once from a CSV file.

By breaking your Script into Scenes, you can easily reorder, edit, and focus on one part of your presentation at a time.

How can AI be useful

JetPrompter's AI is designed to be your creative assistant, helping you move from an idea to a fully-formed script quickly and efficiently. It saves you time and effort during the initial writing phase.

Here’s how the AI can be useful:

  • Generate Scene Ideas: Based on your script's Title, Description, Genre, and Location, the AI can suggest relevant scenes that fit the overall structure of your presentation.
  • Draft Speech Content: The AI will automatically generate the Speech Text for each scene. This means it writes the actual lines for you to present, tailored to the context you've provided.
  • Suggest Scene Locations: To make your script feel more dynamic and organized, the AI can also propose logical locations for each scene.

In short, instead of starting with a blank page, you can use the AI to generate a complete first draft of your script's scenes, which you can then refine and perfect.

How to get the best results from the AI

To get the most accurate and personalized content from the AI, we recommend a quick, one-time setup in the AI Settings (accessible from the main menu). This helps the AI understand your unique style and needs.

Key Steps for Optimal AI Performance:

  • Configure "About You". Tell the AI about yourself, your channel, or your presentation style in the "About You" field. This gives the AI crucial context.
  • Provide a "Speech Example". This is the most powerful way to tailor the AI's writing style. Copy and paste a text snippet that has the tone and style you want to emulate.

Pro Tip: You can copy a transcript snippet of your favorite blogger from YouTube or a passage from a speaker you admire. The AI will analyze this to match the rhythm, vocabulary, and phrasing.

  • Choose the Right AI Model (For Pro Users). While GPT-nano is fast and efficient, we recommend using GPT-mini for higher-quality results. It generates more coherent and contextually appropriate content.
  • Adjust Reasoning and Verbosity. For the best balance of quality and creativity, we suggest setting Reasoning to Medium and Verbosity to Medium.

Taking a few minutes to configure these settings will significantly improve the relevance and quality of the AI-generated scenes, making them feel more like you from the very first draft.

How to edit a scene

Editing a scene is simple and can be done in two main ways.

Method 1: From the Script Screen (Slide to Reveal)

  • Open the script that contains the scene you want to edit.
  • On the scene card, slide the "Speech" field to the right.
  • This will reveal the Edit and Delete buttons underneath.
  • Tap the Edit button to make your changes.

Method 2: Using the Options Menu

  • From the list of scenes in your script, find the scene card you wish to modify.
  • Tap the options menu (⋮) on the scene card.
  • Select "Edit scene" from the list.

Reordering Scenes: You can easily change the order of your scenes by drag and drop. Simply press the handle (the image on the left side of the scene card) and drag the scene to its new position in the list.

How to rework a scene with AI

"Reworking" a scene allows you to use the AI to generate a new version of a scene's speech content while keeping its core structure intact. This is perfect for when a scene's text isn't quite right and you want a fresh AI-powered draft.

Here’s how to rework a scene:

  • Navigate to the script containing the scene you want to rework.
  • Tap the options menu (⋮) on the specific scene card.
  • Select the "Rework" option from the menu.
  • The AI will generate a new "Speech" text for the scene based on the new scene's context and provided Additional Information.

The new AI-generated text will replace the old one, giving you a new starting point that you can then fine-tune with the manual editing tools.

Scene import/export from CSV files

This feature is available for Pro users only.

JetPrompter allows you to export and import scenes via CSV files, enabling advanced workflows like bulk editing on a computer.

Exporting Scenes to CSV:

  • Open the script containing the scenes you want to export.
  • Tap the options menu (⋮) in the top app bar.
  • Select "Save CSV" from the menu.
  • You can then send the CSV file via email or copy it to your PC.
  • Open and edit the file in your favorite spreadsheet or CSV editor.

Importing Scenes from CSV:

  • First, ensure your edited CSV file is on your smartphone (e.g., downloaded or transferred).
  • In JetPrompter, open the script where you want to load the scenes. To Update Existing Scenes: Open the script that contains the original scenes. Scenes will be overwritten if their ID and Created fields match the CSV data.
  • Tap the options menu (⋮) and select "Load CSV".
  • Navigate to and select your CSV file to import the scenes.

Searching pictures for the scenes (Web search)

This feature is available for Pro users only.

JetPrompter can perform a web search for images to provide visual context to your scenes. There are important considerations regarding performance and cost.

Key Points:

  • Impact on AI: Using web search increases the AI's response time and is connected with higher AI costs (measured in tokens).
  • When is it Useful? This feature is particularly helpful when you need a visual reference for an unfamiliar location.
  • Usage Requirements: Web search is only available when using the GPT-mini model with Medium reasoning (or higher) and corresponding verbosity settings.

In short, use web search selectively for scenes where a strong visual context is crucial, and be mindful that it will use more of your AI processing resources.

Using Remote controller

JetPrompter supports external remote controllers for hands-free control of your script playback, making recording sessions smoother and more professional.

How it works: You can use an HID (Human Interface Device) remote controller, such as the ABShutter 3, to start and stop the script playback in the Player window.

Setup and Usage:

  • Connect your compatible remote controller to your smartphone via Bluetooth.
  • Open your script and enter the Player screen (the teleprompter view).
  • Press the button on your remote controller to start scrolling the script.
  • Press the button again to pause the playback.

Technical Note: The remote controller functions by imitating a press of the Volume Up button on your phone. This means any device that can send a Volume Up command should be compatible.

This feature allows you to maintain eye contact with the camera and control your prompter from a distance without touching your device.

Recording videos with smartphone

JetPrompter allows you to record videos directly within the app using your smartphone's camera. The behavior is controlled by the "Prompter Mode" setting in the Playback Setup.

Prompter Modes:

  • Classic Mode: The Player screen is opaque. This mode is designed for use with an external camera setup, where your phone acts purely as a teleprompter.
  • Camera Mode: The Player screen becomes a semi-transparent overlay on top of your smartphone's camera preview. This allows you to read the script while recording video directly with the same device.

Key Settings in Camera Mode:

  • Background Opacity: Adjust the transparency of the script background using the "Background Opacity" field. This lets you find the perfect balance between readable text and a clear view of yourself through the camera.
  • Video Recorder Configuration. Control when recording starts:
    • Auto Mode: The video recording starts automatically when you press the Play button to begin scrolling.
    • Manual Mode: A separate Record button appears. This allows you to start scrolling and get comfortable before manually starting the video recording.

Before using Camera Mode, ensure you have granted the necessary Camera and Microphone permissions to the app.

Desktop to mobile workflow

Starting with version 5.1, JetPrompter offers a seamless desktop-to-mobile workflow, allowing you to edit your scripts and scenes on your PC just as easily as on your mobile device.

How Syncing Works:

  • Automatic Sync (Pro Users): If you have a Pro subscription, your projects can stay up-to-date across all your devices. To enable this, simply turn on the "Sync Data" option in your Settings. Once enabled, any changes you make on the web app will be automatically sent to the cloud database and pushed to your mobile device.
  • On-Demand Sync (Pro Users): Prefer to control when your data syncs? If the "Sync Data" option is disabled, you can still manually sync your latest changes. Just click the "Sync Data" item in the main options menu to send your updates to the cloud.

Recommended Sign-In Method:

To ensure a smooth and reliable connection between your devices, we recommend using Google Sign-In on both your mobile device and the web application. This provides the most consistent authentication for keeping your projects in sync.
